Recycling Automotive Batteries

Car batteries contain lead and acid. Both of these substances can cause environmental damage and are personal safety and health hazards if they leak from a sealed battery.

There are three ways to safely dispose of automotive batteries:

  1. Exchange your old battery at the garage or store where you are purchasing a replacement.
  2. Bring it to the next Hazardous Waste Day collection. The next collection date is May 13, 2023. (more info here)
  3. Local stores and scrap metal yards (many will give you cash or a store credit for every battery you bring in). Please let us know of other stores in Hudson which accept old auto batteries.
